Sustainable development is a cornerstone of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s mission in Southwest Somalia. Recognizing that development and environmental stewardship are interconnected, the Ministry actively promotes practices that harmonize human needs with the health of our ecosystems.
In Southwest Somalia, rapid population growth and urbanization have led to increased demand for resources, resulting in significant environmental pressures. Unsustainable practices in agriculture, fishing, and land use threaten the very ecosystems that provide essential services to our communities. To address these challenges, the Ministry advocates for sustainable development strategies that prioritize environmental integrity alongside economic progress.
A key focus of our sustainable development initiatives is eco-friendly practices across various sectors. We work with farmers to promote sustainable agricultural methods, such as organic farming, crop rotation, and integrated pest management. These practices not only reduce the use of harmful chemicals but also enhance soil fertility and resilience to climate change.
